Here is a recent pick and some info from club president Jack Purinton
Biggest one of the day on a Carolina Rig at Anderson! Used a green Charlie's worms bait and dipped the tail in JJ's Magic. Seemed to have worked! - Jack

Half Moon Bay Ocean Fishing
Hey All,
I wanted to give you more of a heads up about the saltwater experience I had the other day.
We headed out of Half Moon Bay early Wednesday morning at first light!

We headed out of Half Moon Bay early Wednesday morning at first light!
The seas were pretty calm, but in usual Thiemann fashion I felt nauseous. Ocean swell is not my favorite thing in the world but I was able to keep my stomach calm enough to fish.
We started by trolling for salmon. This includes using downriggers, flashers, and some sort of anchovy.
We ended up catching a couple small salmon like the one below. They seemed to like the color orange on this day. We caught our fish in about 125ft of water and the downriggers were set at 100-110ft.
After the trolling experience we switched our fishing to cod. This involves finding rocks and fish and then setting up a drift. We fished a variety of lures and bait. I mostly fished a swimbait, hoping to get a bigger bite.
Throwing the swimbait up into the drift, letting it hit the bottom, and hoping it / swimming it back to the boat. Had lots of bites but only one was big enough to make it to the boat.

Overall saltwater fishing is really fun, but you need to have the vestibular system to hack it. Also getting out on a small boat makes the experience that much better. It you have had a bad experience on a charter boat, try to get out again on a smaller private charter.
