Fishing Pictures 1-31-15 Anderson Reservoir

Big thanks to all that came out today! Another thanks to Collin and Mitch for driving.

Tough bite overall, but there were fish to be caught. Key to the day was patience and perseverance. We experienced some gear failures, bloody hand, and close calls (Zach almost swimmin' with the fishes...), but it was a beautiful day. Got a good hike in and caught some fish.

Overall fish catch was: Phillip B. - 1 fish, Brooks B. - 1 fish, and Mr. T - 3 fish
Keys for success seemed to be finesse (d-shot, shaky head, mini-keitech paddletail), slowwwly working the baits, and making parallel casts to the bank. Lots of club members experienced bites, and I know I lost a fish right on the bank and broke off a fish in the rocks. Looking forward to the next fish out! - Mr. T

Winner of the Photo Contest! First fish and prettiest fish for sure, ha.

Club Meeting Agenda 1-28-15

Guest Speaker - Nick Ingram

Topic - Fishing Line
When/Where - Today at lunch in K-4

Nick will be discussing how to select the right fishing line. The answer is more complex than you might think and the right line for you does not necessarily have to be expensive.

Anderson Report 1-24-15

Local San Jose angler, and future guest speaker, Nick Ingram, headed out with his friend Tom (also a site contributor) and pounded the bank for a collective 5 bass limit totaling approximately 10 pounds.  Although they had to work hard for their fish, they ended up with a decent day of late January bass fishing.  Fish were caught using small swimbaits (3.8" Keitech "Swing Impact FAT" fished on a weighted hook) and small plastics fished on a drop shot rig (try a 3" ZOOM Tiny Fluke or other small baitfish imitation with a 10-14" dropper).  For your best shot at catching a few fish look for steep banks adjacent to chunk rock points and walls.  Make a long cast straight off the bank and work your offering SLOWLY along the bottom.  Fishing the bank around rocky structure can be a bit frustrating and you can count on losing a few set ups.  Try not to get frustrated and be cautious about what you set the hook on.  If you feel some weight, hold it  for a second and see if it pulls back.  If it does set the hook!  If not, try a gentle pop or shake to free the rig before it wedges in too far.  Water clarity I stained with about 2 feet of visibility being the norm.  The lake level seems to be dropping slowly.

Jan 18th and 19th Fishing Report

Anderson Reservoir

Typical winter fishing going on here. Random assortment of baits can catch them here.

Went out with the wife and caught them on a dartheaded worm (Reaction Innovations Spanish Fly Flirt Worm) Only 2 fish for 2 1/2 hours, but nice nonetheless. My friends fished the same day with similar results.

Manresa Beach Surf Perch

Went surf fishing again. I was very frustrated... about 20+ bites for 5 fish. My friends were much more successful with about 10 and 15 fish a piece. This was the biggest fish...

Winter Bass Fishing Tutorial

Great YouTube channel for all you bass fisherman. Only technique I haven't tried in the Senko on a ball head. I can vouch for the other 4 techniques. They are all legit.

January 4th 2015 - Del Valle Bass

My friend Tom went to Del Valle and smoked 'em from the bank! Caught 10 fish in the morning (5 largies and 5 smallies). Fished Keitech swimbaits slowly uphill from deep water and across points. Also caught a couple vertically fishing a spoon.

January 4th 2015 Berryessa Report

Went out with my friend Nick and we had a rough day. 4 fish a piece, mostly on D-Shot and one on a hand tied hair jig (Nick's creation). Cold and crazy day. Weather was windy, flat calm, overcast, blue bird sky's, and even a couple drops of rain in the morning. Really unstable weather conditions tends to lend itself to unstable fishing. Plus the Mega-Moon allows the fish to feed through the night and get more than there fill of food.

Last fish out the day was the biggest a 3 pound smallie

January 3-4 2015 Morro Bay Surf Perch

Went to Morro Bay for the wife's B-Day and did some fishing. Fished the mornings of Friday and Saturday (7 ft. High Tide for about 2 hours each day). Caught over 50 fish for the 2 days of fishing. Simple rigging was used as explained in the video below. Pics are to follow.

Also fished La Selva beach at sunset and caught 3 small perch.
