Late November Bass Fishing - Anderson Reservoir

There is still some water in Anderson and the bass are biting. Went out on Saturday and caught 8 bass from the bank on a Shaky Head in about 3 hours. Fished from 10 AM-1:15 PM and mainly fished from the Dam out to main lake points.

I fished where the red X's are

Also my bait of choice for bank fishing has been the Dry Creek Tazer Tube. You can pair this with a 1/4 oz Shaky Head and make a deadly little bait that snaked in and out of the rocks. I like it because it catches fish like a tube, but is near snagless like a Shaky Worm.

Here is one of the fish from the trip. They were all fat in the 1.5 - 3.5 lb class.

Del Valle 9-7-17 (Labor Day)

Hey All,

I know it has been a while, but we have all been hitting the books and getting back in the swing of school. Wanted to share a brief Del Valle report.

Basically the fishing was sub par. Water temp in the low 70s and lots of boats on the water. Targeted LMB, SMB, and Stripers. Total catch for about 4 hours was 3 Stripers and 1 smallmouth.

The Stripers did boil at times, but brief and sporadic. All fish came on spoons (besides the d-shot smallie).

Half Moon Bay Ocean Fishing

Hey All,

I wanted to give you more of a heads up about the saltwater experience I had the other day.

We headed out of Half Moon Bay early Wednesday morning at first light!

The seas were pretty calm, but in usual Thiemann fashion I felt nauseous. Ocean swell is not my favorite thing in the world but I was able to keep my stomach calm enough to fish.

We started by trolling for salmon. This includes using downriggers, flashers, and some sort of anchovy.

We ended up catching a couple small salmon like the one below. They seemed to like the color orange on this day. We caught our fish in about 125ft of water and the downriggers were set at 100-110ft.

After the trolling experience we switched our fishing to cod. This involves finding rocks and fish and then setting up a drift. We fished a variety of lures and bait. I mostly fished a swimbait, hoping to get a bigger bite.

Throwing the swimbait up into the drift, letting it hit the bottom, and hoping it / swimming it back to the boat. Had lots of bites but only one was big enough to make it to the boat.

Swimbait lingcod on the left / Trolling lingcod on the right
Overall saltwater fishing is really fun, but you need to have the vestibular system to hack it. Also getting out on a small boat makes the experience that much better. It you have had a bad experience on a charter boat, try to get out again on a smaller private charter.

Mr. T

Summer Bass Fishing Report

Anderson... Easy Pickin's

Update!!! 7-9-15 - Bigger Bag of Bass

Caught most of these nice ones on this worm you see here. It is called a Flirt Worm from Reaction Innovations. Fished it on a dart head and drop shot. Dying the tail chartreuse is also a great idea!!!

Anderson has been very productive this year. A boat is a great way to get out on the water but recent grad Brendt Citta and I caught around 20 fish is a matter of 3 hours from the bank!!!

Also, I have been out a couple times with Nick. Him and I have caught between 30-40 fish each trip for a total time of 3 1/2 - 4 hours. Today was no different. Big fish went 4 lbs.

Best Bite: Main lake points or walls
Best Baits: Baby Brush Hog, Tube, 6" Worms

Big fish for the day. Around a 2 lb fish - Caught on a drop shot
Healthy 3 lber  on a dart head worm

Nice 4 lb fish on a Carolina Rigged brush hog

Salmon Report

This year has been a subpar year for ocean salmon fishing, but it has picked up in the last few weeks. My dad and his friend Frank went out and caught fish on the New Rayann of Sausalito.

Enjoy, and email me with any questions, tips, or advice about fly fishing! athiemann@sjusd.org

Almaden Reservoir and Delta Updates

Almaden Res.

Here is a report from Stefan:

Hope you are having a nice break!  Pulled a massive crappie out of Almaden Reservoir today, off a small swim bait!  Thought you might enjoy!  Did not get a chance to weigh or measure, but from comparison of my arm he seemed a little over 14-15 inches.                                                  -Stefan

The Delta

Senkos rule the delta bite. Color of bait did not seem to matter, but fish were coming off of sparse tule clusters. My friend Nick and I went out on Monday and the my friend Calvin fished with a buddy of his on Friday and caught nice fish also.

The tow rig, oh yeah!

Delta Report - March 2015

Fished pretty shallow most of the day. Water was stained. Bluegill were everywhere. The bass were chewing! Not hot and heavy action but some good ones. Also, we saw one fish on a spawning bed and hooked it twice.

This is the time club members. It is now or never. Spring is here and lines need to be in the water to capitalize.

Email me or Mitch if you would like to help organize a fishing event. This club is run by the members. Take action and make this club the way you want it!

Club Member Anderson Report

Bobby with an absolute TOAD!!!
Hello All. Hopefully you are following this blog. If not, you are surely missing out on some great fishing action. Do whatever you can to get out to Anderson. The bite is going off. I went out last Thursday after school and caught 30 fish in 3 hours.

Bobby sent me this photo and this quote, "I went to Anderson and fished under the bridge for a little and caught a nice 3 3/4pounder on a Texas rigged roboworm."

GO CATCH FISH! Come see me if you need hooks. I have some as well as a few soft plastics that will work.

Additionally, my friends Nick and Tom fished for twice as long and caught 50 bass between the two of them.

Best baits: Soft plastics (Zoom baby brush hog being the ticket)
Best locations: Shallow flats and the backs of coves
Best times: 5-6 PM

Get out there and catch some fish!

Springtime Fishing (Pre-Spawn and Spawn)

The guys from Tactical Bassin' have some great advice in the video above. Yet, for many bank walkers, it may not be best to use those techniques. So below are my Top 3 baits for spring!

Mr. T's Top 3 Springtime Baits

  1. Drop Shot - Whether you are fishing a bass locked on a spawning bed or you are targeting bass pushing schools of bait, the drop shot will get it done.
  2. Shad/Bluegill Reaction Bait - I can't just say jerkbait, swimbait, topwater, or crankbait. Instead, I think it is just important to have the best "reaction" bait for the conditions. My confidence baits are LuckyCraft pointers, Scroungers, and Norman Deep Little N's
  3. Neko Rig - The Neko rig is a way to rig a worm to make it dance across the bottom of a lake. It looks great in the water and flat out catches fish. Good for bed fishing and for catching fish on weedlines
Even though these are my top 3 baits right now, it doesn't really matter. My two biggest bass (seen below) were caught on a tube and a spider jig. These were great baits and I would also suggest them, yet I think a drop shot or texas rig could have also caught these fish. I think the lesson is... have your lines in the water during the springtime and you will see great results!
91/2 lb on a tube (March)
10 lb on Yamamoto Hula Grub (April)
